Welcome to the School Counseling Office
The school counseling program at Stratford gives attention to individual students as well as providing whole class instruction in social/emotional skills. Students are referred for individual counseling by request of teachers or parents, or counseling may be part of a student's Individual Education Plan or IEP. Students typically meet with the school counselor once a week for a half hour. They may also be included in a small group of students who are practicing their social skills.
Whole class instruction is provided to each class once a week. The elementary students have a half hour seession and the middle school students a regular class period. Topics that are covered include managing feelings, using manners, bullying prevention, and working in a group, among many others. Older middle school students also receive instruction in suicide prevention and healthy relationships.
