Today, we saw the Starkies channeling grit in all its forms. Whether it was overcoming the fear of trusting the auto-belay, pushing past the point where they previously got stuck, or finally walking across the balance beam without holding anyone’s hand—no one gave up. They pushed through the tears, the knots in their stomachs, and the aches in their tired arms.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Fluoride Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (SMCL) Exceedance
Public Water System Name: STARK VILLAGE SCH PWS ID: 2185010
We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards. Your drinking water test result is above the Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (SMCL) for the following:
Fluoride 2.0 mg/L 2024
This is not an emergency. If it had been you would have been notified immediately. This is an alert about your drinking water and a cosmetic dental problem that might affect children under 9 years of age. At low levels, fluoride can help prevent cavities, but children drinking water containing more than 2.0 milligrams per liter (mg/L) of fluoride may develop cosmetic discoloration of their permanent teeth (dental fluorosis).
Dental fluorosis, in its moderate or severe forms, may result in a brown staining and/or pitting of the permanent teeth. This problem occurs only in developing teeth, before they erupt from the gums. Children under nine should be provided with alternative sources of drinking water or water that has been treated to remove the fluoride to avoid the possibility of staining and pitting of their permanent teeth. You may also want to contact your dentist about proper use by young children of fluoride-containing products. Older children and adults may safely drink the water.
Drinking water containing more than 4.0 mg/L of fluoride (the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s drinking water standard) can increase your risk of developing bone disease. Your drinking water does not contain more than 4.0 mg/L of fluoride, but we are required to notify you when we discover that fluoride levels in your drinking water exceed 2.0 mg/L because of this cosmetic dental problem.
What should I do? Children under the age of nine (9) should use an alternative source of water that is low in fluoride.
In addition, you may want to consult your dentist about whether to avoid dental products containing fluoride. Adults and children over age nine should consult their dentist or doctor and show him/her this notice to determine if an alternate source of water low in fluoride should be used.
General health related questions may be directed to the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791. Some home water treatment units are also available to remove fluoride from drinking water. Good morning SAU #58 families & staff,
Due to the weather comditions, there will be a two hour delay this morning, April 3, 2025.
Attached you will see the Notification Letter for Lead testing at SVS. We have removed access to the water fixture that didn't pass until we can replace and retest it.
The 5/6th class took a dip in the pool for their first trip to Evergreen. What most impressed us was the outpouring of support that peers had for each other. In order to swim in the deep end of the pool, students had to pass a swim test that involves swimming the length of the pool and then treading water for 45 seconds. This is daunting! However, we saw them cheering each other on, waiting with bated breath to see if they passed, and even volunteering to swim alongside them so they would be more comfortable! It was outstanding!
The second, third and fourth graders, experienced their first time at the rock climbing gym. They began with some free climbing to learn the rules and the basics. Then they completed a fun obstacle course that included a swing, balance beam and navigating the bottom of the wall. Then they were ready for the bigger climbs, the ones that require required them to learn how to put on harnesses. Understandably a few students were very nervous in the beginning however, because they practiced individual skills before the harder climbs they were more confident. Mrs. Jewell was so impressed by the teamwork, growth mindset and tenaciousness that she saw today!
Today was our first Evergreen Sports Center trip! The kindergarten/first graders found their inner balance, overcame obstacles and tumbled like pros! While some of our friends began the day in tears because they were nervous, with the support of their friends everyone was able to be successful!
We invited the Plymouth State University TIGER program to the school on 3/21. TIGER (Theatre, Integrating, Guidance, Education, Responsibility) is a musical theatre program designed to teach positive behavioral strategies for common challenges that young people face. We chose the “True Blue” show, which is "a musical journey exploring authenticity and standing up for what's right." This show helps students understand the importance of being true to themselves while supporting others. Throughout the show, students learned to use the acronym T.I.G.E.R. to Trust others, Include others, Give to others, Empower each other, and Respect each other.

Hello SVS family and friends, tomorrow is our Iditarod day with Groveton Elementary School. Rain is in the forecast, so please be sure to send your student in the appropriate outdoor weather gear and with a change of clothes just in case! Thank you!
Congratulations to our newest Elementary Band students. They are dedicated band students who have progressed enough in their lessons to be invited to play with the rest of the elementary band at Groveton Elementary School. Many thanks to Mr. Tobin for his lessons and dedication to helping them improve! Well done!

On Friday, we used our scooters around an obstacle course, to play freeze dance, and to play Red Light/Green Light. Scooters are great for gross motor development by engaging student's core muscles, legs, and arms as they push themselves along.
