Behind every polished hallway, pristine workspace, and seamlessly functioning facility is a foundation built by hands that work tirelessly, often before the sun comes up or long after the doors close. On National Custodians Day, we honor four incredible people who are the true backbone of our environment: Lisa, Kaden, Donald, and Nate.
Maintaining a facility requires far more than routine upkeep; it takes genuine pride, relentless effort, and an unwavering commitment to detail.
Lisa brings an unmistakable care and pride to everything she touches, making sure every space is not just clean, but truly welcoming. Kaden approaches every challenge with infectious energy and speed, stepping in seamlessly to keep daily operations moving without a hitch. Donald stands as a rock of dependability, bringing steady focus, practical wisdom, and a dedication to quality that keeps our surroundings running smoothly. Nate completes the team with his sharp eye, tireless work ethic, and a proactive spirit that ensures no detail is ever overlooked.
Together, Lisa, Kaden, Donald, and Nate do much more than maintain buildings, they shape the everyday experience of everyone who steps foot inside. They give us safe, bright, and comfortable spaces to learn, work, and connect, turning routine care into a standard of excellence.

Our amazing Groveton Eagles staff across both buildings was treated to a special "Holding Onto Summer Vibes" break complete with refreshing lemonade, chips and dip, fruit slices, drink mix-ins, and tropical treats! Chips, salsa, lemonade, and pure team spirit, it takes a village, and our eagle-eyed staff brings the warmth and energy every single day.
Nothing beats refueling together, sharing a laugh, and keeping the positivity flowing as we dive into another fantastic school year.

Dear Northumberland Families,
I want to begin by sharing an exciting and important shift in how we are structuring leadership.
Beginning this spring, Northumberland will move to a K–12 leadership model designed to strengthen alignment, consistency, and opportunity for every child we serve. This model includes a K–12 Principal supported by two Assistant Principals, one serving our elementary school and one serving our middle/high school.
This structure allows us to operate as one unified system, ensuring that students experience a cohesive journey from kindergarten through graduation, while maintaining strong, building-level leadership and support.
With that in mind, I’m excited to share wonderful news with you.
Josh Smith has been appointed as our K–12 Principal. This is a moment of pride and promise for our district. For the past 13 years, Josh has been a dedicated and deeply valued member of the Northumberland community, including two years as an assistant principal and five impactful years as Principal of Groveton Elementary School. In that time, he has built meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff, earning trust, respect, and admiration across our schools. Simply put, our students know him, our families trust him, and our educators believe in him.
Josh is the kind of leader who lifts others up. He has a proven ability to strengthen both academic outcomes and school culture, creating environments where students feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow, and where educators feel empowered in their craft. He leads with heart, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to doing what is right for children.
As we look ahead, this appointment represents more than a leadership change. It reflects our belief that a more connected, coherent system will better serve every child. With Josh leading our K–12 system, we are taking a powerful step toward that vision.
The future is bright in Northumberland, and I’m incredibly optimistic about what we will accomplish, together.

On Wednesday, November 12, we celebrated our NHS Induction Ceremony, and on Thursday, November 13, our juniors and drama students attended a performance of The Crucible at the Littleton Opera House.
Today, Friday, November 14, we held our second Parent Roundtable discussion, where we focused on curriculum and report cards. Our next Parent Roundtable is scheduled for December 12 at 8:00 a.m. in the main office. All parents and guardians are welcome—we hope to see you there!
Looking ahead, we will host a special dance assembly on November 25 that highlights themes of bullying prevention and kindness. The elementary performance will take place at 9:00 a.m., followed by the middle and high school assembly at 10:00 a.m. Please also note that we have an early dismissal on November 26.

This week marks 6 weeks into the semester. I encourage you to check your child’s progress on Alma and/or reach out to your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns. This week we celebrated September’s Student of the Month with Jackson Boivin being nominated for the middle school and Colby Shannon for the high school. We also celebrated our first Staff Soaring Eagle of the Month award with Mr. Blodgett being this month’s recipient for his willingness to above and beyond for our school. Congratulations to Jackson, Colby and Mr. Blodgett!
Today students in 7th and 8th grade participated in the WYLD program. With WYLD, participants share time in the great outdoors, exploring different environments and activities that provide opportunities for experiential learning for physical education. Seventh and eighth graders will cycle through multiple groups throughout the year. In addition, high school students attended the Touch a Trade fair in Berlin today to explore various trade occupations.
Don’t forget next week Picture Day is on October 7th. Packets have been sent home. If you need an additional packet, please contact the office. Also a reminder students do not have school on October 10th for teacher professional development day or October 13th, Columbus Day.

Hello GHS Families!
Week Five has been another event filled week with two major field trips. The middle school attended their annual overnight hiking trip at the AMC on Thursday and Friday. Despite the rain on Thursday, the students were having a blast and the fall foliage is at its peak!
On September 24th, high school students in Mrs. Guay’s Introduction to Algebra class went to the Waumbek golf course where students learned how math is used to operate a golf course. The students had the opportunity to play golf and interview the staff. The Waumbek also generously provided lunch for everyone. They had a beautiful day and did not have to contend with any rain. By all reports the students had a great time, with many playing golf for the first time!
Next week marks 6 weeks into the marking period. Please check your child’s progress on Alma. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teachers. The end of the first quarter is coming up on October 31st. Also, just a reminder that School Picture Day is October 7th. Students will be receiving school picture packets next week. Please be on the lookout for the packets.
